Description

WHAT IS A HAWKEYE BORESCOPE?

The “Shooters Edition” Hawkeye Borescope has become the standard borescope for the shooting industry.
Consisting of an inner and outer tube made up of the Multi-Coated Objective lens and the 90 degree mirror tube, both of which serve their own purpose, the Hawkeye Borescope is a MUST HAVE item for all firearm owners.
The eyecup has the highest quality optics and mirror technology that resists even the harshest gun cleaning solutions. The mirror tube can be rotated 360 degrees so you can see all the lands and grooves all the way down your bore, from the muzzle to the breech. Each borescope comes with the Mini Maglite that is exceptionally efficient. With Hawkeye Borescopes the image quality in a rifle barrel is better than other borescopes on the market. The reason is Hawkeye’s patented endoGRINS lenses and lighting system.
The Hawkeye Borescope allows a straight-on view down a barrel, for example; a 90-degree angle view right into the side of a bore; or a 30-degree view, a shooter is able to see anything inside a rifle barrel in great detail with the Hawkeye Borescope.

WHY DO YOU NEED A HAWKEYE BORESCOPE?

Using a borescope is not just a matter of determining whether your barrel is clean or dirty. Hawkeye Borescopes can help you determine if your barrel has any carbon fouling, good or bad copper fouling, and how your new barrel will foul. Once you use a borescope you will be able to notice several things:

  • The first 6″-8″ of the chamber end of the barrel usually has more carbon fouling while the last 10″ of the muzzle tends to have more copper fouling.
  • The difference between good and bad copper fouling.
    • Bad copper fouling appears as heavy, dark copper streaks down the barrel and typically causes the barrel to not shoot.
    • Good copper fouling appears as brushed golden grooves.
  • In the chamber you are likely to find a ring of carbon ahead of your casing. Beyond the chamber you’ll probably find built up carbon, and as we all know carbon is difficult to remove without the correct cleaning technique and products.
By using the Hawkeye Borescope you will be able to answer some key questions you might be asking yourself:
  • How much fouling is in your gun’s bore and where is it located?
  • Is powder fouling a problem or is bullet jacket fouling a problem?
  • How effective is your cleaning method?
  • Which method of cleaning products produces the best results?
  • What is causing my sizing die to causes scratches?
  • What is the condition of the flash holes in your lot of cases?
and so many more….

If you’re a gunsmith you can not afford to not have a Hawkeye Borescope – first, you will quickly acquire an intimate knowledge of the effects of your tooling and work.

  • What is the best way to set up a barrel and hold a reamer while cutting a chamber for the cleanest and truest results?
  • What effects have your reamer sharpening had?
  • What is the bore finish really like in the new barrels you’re receiving?
  • How does one maker’s barrels compare with another?
The Hawkeye Borescope can view the interior of more than just the bore, you can also view inside the rifle bolt to see if the striker or spring is making contact and dragging where it should not. With the Hawkeye Borescope you can quickly determine if an accuracy problem is due to some anomaly in the steel, bore fouling, or throat wear.

Unlike other gunsmiths, you will be able to provide your client with visual proof of what is wrong with their firearm.
